Individual Counseling Sessions

Children (Three to nine years old)
We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” Stacia Tauscher
Children often need a safe space beyond home and school to express their emotions, creativity and selves. I offer a respectful environment and approach in which to explore through art, sand tray, play therapy, storytelling and talking. My work with children is developmentally and age appropriate and is in complete connection with the parents as the child’s advocate.

Adolescents ( Nine to 18 years old)
“What is therapeutic for adolescents is to be granted the opportunity to reveal themselves in the context of a genuine relationship. Adolescents are yearning to be made visible.” Richard Frankel
Creating a space and relationship in which an adolescent is free to share their life story is an essential aspect of healthy human development and an overall sense of well being while on the journey from childhood into adulthood. There are endless possibilities and challenges within this transition.

Women (over 18 years old)
“Each person bears a uniqueness that asks to be lived and that is already present before it can be lived.” James Hillman
Working with and supporting women is my life’s work. Each of us has many stories within us. The process of sharing these stories can bring us closer in connection to our authenticity, our relationships with others, and to the world in which we live. Staying in connection, in proper relation, in balance with our self, our community, our family, our body is a journey of transition, uncertainty, transformation, and challenge. Your stories deserve to be witnessed, heard, and held.

Parents
“It is not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.” Joyce Maynard
I am delighted to work with parents who are committed to work together to define and enhance their parenting philosophy and skills. I also welcome working with parents experiencing family transitions: living situations, partnership changes, adoption, birth of a child, blended families, relocation and work transitions. Parenting is filled with joy and challenge. As parents, we all deserve support and education.

Transition into Motherhood
“Becoming a mother is an ongoing process: transformations worked over time. To what extent will we give ourselves to these transformations? Nature abducts us on the journey, drawing us into the essential pulse of creation: we go, sometimes kicking and struggling against these forces, sometimes content to float along, at times stunned into stillness in our meetings with the great mysteries.” Marden Tonder Hansen
The transition into motherhood begins at all stages of the process. For some it is thinking about welcoming a child, hoping to conceive, becoming pregnant, conceiving challenges, miscarriage, infertility, adopting a child, preparing for labor, waiting for your child, when the baby/child arrives, infancy and every year after! The journey into motherhood can be a complex transition filled with bliss and despair. Give yourself permission and the support you need to experience this transition and transformation completely.

The Circle: A creative experience for young women to come together and share the stories of their life.
The Circle is a group process created to support, encourage, and foster self-esteem, allow for expression both with voice and creativity, and create a space where girls feel free and safe to share their life experiences. Each Circle is custom designed for girls ranging in age from 9 to 18. The Circle is designed to create space for girls and young women to participate in a group community based on and thriving from respect, guidance, and compassion. The circles are not designed for advice giving or therapy. Instead the circles are for sharing experiences, tackling difficult subjects in a comfortable environment, coming together, and creating a forum for authentic expression.

--Body Image, The Beauty Myth & Body Awareness
--Friendship & Relational Issues and Awareness
--Inclusion & Exclusion
--Boundaries & Personal Space
--Developing Your Voice

Sarah is always present to hold the integrity and purpose of the circle, model female leadership, moderate, and participate fully. Each Circle is custom designed to fit the needs and issues of the participating community.
