about haven

HAVEN Collaborative Counseling and Consulting was formed in 2003. The name Haven came in a dream overnight as I was pondering what my practice should be called. I felt what “haven” brought up in me: a sanctuary, a protected space in a storm, a boat in a harbor overnight ready to go back out on the sea come morning, a nest, a healing space, and ultimately a safe resting place. All images and essences of how I hold the counseling practice and process. HAVEN is the right name for my work.

I have spent many years in the field of education as a student, Outdoor school educator, AMI trained Primary Montessori Guide, Masters of Education graduate student, Outward Bound Instructor, Elementary team teacher, and Head of School. After being co-director of a Montessori school in Maine, I realized that my life’s work was shifting from creating physical spaces for children and adults to explore …whether out at sea on an Outward Bound course or in the Montessori community to preparing a space for us to explore inward into ourselves and our stories. That realization was when I decided to attend Pacifica Graduate Institute for a Masters in the Art of Counseling Psychology with a focus in Depth Psychology.

I strive delicately and purposefully to balance my life as a woman, partner, mother and a therapist.
